The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting scheduled for today has been called off.

The electoral body said the cancellation of the meeting was due to “the unfortunate death of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Chairman for the Upper East” Adams Mahama.

Mahama died from an acid attack on him Wednesday night near his residence.

“A new date will be announced later. The Commission deeply regrets any inconvenience the postponement might cause,” a statement signed by deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Amadu Sulley said.

The meeting was to address issues raised by the political parties and pressure groups over the continuous registration of voters and transfer process.

Pressure Group, Let My Vote Count and the largest opposition party the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have raised concerns about the process, saying stakeholders were not consulted. The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also said they were left in the dark.

Following the public outcry the EC suspended the exercise “pending a thorough discussion of the matter with IPAC.”
