Dr. Kwame Addo Kufour, one of the presidential aspirants in the bloated presidential race of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) last Friday embarked on what could best be described as a night stealth midnight political vote hunting in two constituencies in the western region.
The aspirant whose candidature has come under severe criticism within the quarters of his own party due to his blood relation with the sitting president and the implications his candidature could have for the party, pressed ahead unperturbed to spread his campaign message to delegates in Sekondi-Takoradi and Ahanta west constituencies late in the night.
He repeated his belief that he is the man to lead the party in the next general elections.
His meeting with the two constituencies, which started around 8:30pm where he met the delegates in Sekondi Takoradi at the Shippers Council, saw him showcase his achievement on a video clip as a Defence minister to the delegates ending late around 10: 30 pm in the night.
Once again, the normal Regional executives generally receive all aspirants turned out to receive him without the regional chairman, Nana Owusu Ankomah.
This is the second time he had not attended Dr. Addo Kufour's meeting with the delegates here, but in a telephone interview, the chairman refused to give reasons for his absence at the said meeting. He rather questioned this reporter, " are you a party member or a Journalist".
The regional Secretary, Mr. K. K. Sam, Mr. Kojo Acquah, Regional Organizer who has has come out boldly to throw his weight behind the candidature of Prof. Frimpong Boateng and the Regional Women's Organizer, Madam Abena Kwalla all turned out to welcome the President's brother. Addo Kufour, this paper learnt, also toured several constituencies in the region here and left last Sunday to Accra.
The aspirant who drove in a two Land Cruiser vehicles with registration number WR 2010 W and GT 1037 T with a Military bodyguard, sneaked out after his meeting with the delegates at the Shippers Council and drove on to Ahanta west where another set of delegates had been awaiting him.
At his meeting with the delegates at the Ahanta west, which ended around 11:30 pm in the night, the aspirants, this paper learnt, gave the aspirant a thumb up as the best candidates to succeed the sitting president.
This according to the delegates was because, if indeed the party needed candidates to directly tread directly in the footsteps of the sitting president with respect to his calmness, gentleness and desire to maintain peace in our country and as well as the African sub region and to kowtow not to any radicalism, then the candidature of Addo Kufour was the best in this direction.
