Mr Daniel Bugre Naabu, Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described as illegal attempts by Mr Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong, National Chairman and General Secretary respectively of the NPP, to register new members of the party.

He explained that any decision to register new members of the party and issue them with Identification Cards (IDs) must be taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC), in consultation with the Council of Elders.

Mr Naabu who raised these concerns in Tamale at a press briefing, indicated that Sammy Crabbe, Afoko and Agyapong must rescind their decision to embark on any such exercise until approval had been given by the higher authorities of the party.

“They have no power to do that …the party cannot allow few groups of people to do anything they wish at any point in time,” he said, alleging that the bank account that was being used for the registration was not the party’s account, and could not be acceptable.

The Regional Chairman indicated that the actions of the trio was affecting the party negatively, and urged them to focus on issues that would unite the party to ensure that they captured power from the National Democratic Congress in the 2016 polls.

He urged members of the NPP to disssociate themselves from any registration exercise being conducted by Mr Agyapong and Mr Afoko, since it was not authorized by the party hierarchy.

Mr Naabu said the NPP was poised to win the 2016 elections despite the minor internal wrangling, claiming that the NPP was more united than the NDC.

He expressed optimism that the NPP would capture more than 20 seats in the Northern Region, and astronomically increase its voting fortunes to ensure a resounding victory in the 2016 elections.
