Pieces of information gathered from the corridors of the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has revealed that the party’s national chairman and General-Secretary have been named in the campaign team for the 2016 general elections.
Mr. Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Kasapafmonline.com discovered, will not be at the forefront of the campaign but strategically, operate from the fringes where the party over the years has been found wanting.
“They are going to operate on the sidelines – monitoring the rest of the team and providing directions where necessary. Their role is more or less a bit technical and that is the most important thing for the party,” a party stalwart who did not want his name to be mentioned told this website.
The inclusion of the duo in Nana Addo’s campaign team has for some months now been the center of discussion among the elephant family and a cross section of the general public.
While some support their inclusion, others believe the exclusion will be critical for the party winning the 2016 general elections.
Former National Chairman of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, Peter Mac Manu is to head the team.
Also included among the team are the party’s National and Youth Organisers, John Boadu and Sammy Awuku respectively.
The aforementioned names, according to party sources, are part of the list of people submitted by Nana Addo to the National Council of Elders of the party, who will make up his campaign team.
The Elders of the party are expected to meet and deliberate on the choice this week.
Largely, we are told, the candidature of Mr. Manu will go unquestioned.
