Paul Afoko - NPP Chairman
Spokesperson for the National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Nana Yaw Osei has rubbished media reports allegeing Paul Afoko is against a former National Chair, Mac-Manu as the campaign manager for NPP Flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo.
The Herald newspaper, in a publication on Friday, August 7th, claimed “exactly a week ago, Nana Akufo-Addo, sneaked into his Nima residence from London, with a confidential document, detailing members of his 2016 campaign team, atop the list of things he brought home to do, ahead of a nationwide tour, he will soon embark upon”.
“But insiders close to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, reveal to ‘The Herald’ that the list announcing the ex-NPP National Chairman, Peter Mac-Manu as head of the 2016 campaign team is gathering dust, because the embattled National Chairman, Paul Afoko has refused to call for National Executive Council (NEC) and the National Council, to first see the list”, the newspaper stated.
But spokesperson for Paul Afoko stated in an interview on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show said it is not true because the NPP National Chairman is not aware the flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed someone or group of people as his campaign team.
He added that nobody has discussed with Paul Afoko any campaign team adding that what the Herald newspaper published 'is mere speculation'.
"...the speculation started on social media about four days ago that Nana Addo is ready to announce his campaign team to start work but Paul Afoko is stalling that decision by refusing to call for a meeting which is why Nana Addo has not done so," Lawyer Yaw Osei indicated.
He maintained that “it is this speculation on the social media that The Herald newspaper has picked up”; adding Paul Afoko’s camp has even issued a press statement to that effect debunking it.
“There is no truth in The Herald’s publication that Afoko is against Mac-Manu as Nana Addo’s campaign manager; Mr. Afoko is not even aware Nana Addo has appointed someone or a group of people as his campaign manager...”, he added.
