Agona West Muslims pray for violence-free elections

Imams and leaders of Muslim Communities in the Agona West Municipality, last Friday converged at the Central mosque at Agona Swedru Old Zongo, to pray for violence-free elections and success of the impending biometric voter registration exercise.

Alhaji Iddriss Musah Sori, Agona West Municipal Imam, led them to recite all 114 chapters of the Holy Koran to pray for Allah’s blessings to ensure the country's economic freedom.

The Muslims used the national prayer session to pray for President J.E.A. Mills, Ministers of State, Parliamentarians, MMDCES and Council of State Members and for Allah’s guidance and protection as the nation prepares for the 2012 elections.

Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive who addressed Muslim leaders urged them to caution their children to avoid under-age and double registration.

He said minors who would register would face punitive action.

The MCE took time to explain the registration process to them and asked the leaders to educate their people about the importance of the exercise.

He urged Muslims to exhort their youth not to allow themselves to be used by some political party leaders to perpetrate violence during and after the elections.

The MCE reminded them that they should not see their political opponents as their enemies, adding that, the nation needed to grow economically, politically and culturally to ensure quality human development.

He said peace in the nation would assist the President and other economic planners to improve on the country's development.

Present were Alhaji Mohammed Khamis, Imam, Abubakar Alhasan, Assemblyman for old Zongo, and Alhaji Adams Abubakar secretary to Central Mosque.**
