Agona Swedru, June 26, GNA- The Agona West constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has opened nominations for parliamentary primaries to select a candidate to contest the 2008 elections.
Mr Musah Kwame Donkoh, constituency chairman who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Sunday at Agona Swedru said the party was expecting not less than five members to pick the nomination forms before the deadline of 20th July 2007.
He said the constituency executives have decided to price the forms for 200,000 cedis to meet the pocket of members to enable them to contest the primaries.
Mr Donkoh stressed that no date has been fixed for the primaries, but hoped that the National executives of the party would soon fix a date for the polls.
The Constituency Chairman said NDC has decided to choose the parliamentary candidates early to enable them to have adequate time to prepare.
This he said would give the NDC the advantage to capture the seat from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in next year's elections. Mr Donkoh indicated that the Agona West NPP has been rocked with numerous wrangles, which would give an advantage for the NDC to unseat the ruling party.
The Chairman urged the members to intensify their membership drive to win more supporters for the party. He said the flag bearer of the NDC Professor Evans Atta Mills would soon embark on a campaign tour of the Agona West constituency to boost the morale of the members to work harder.
