New Patriotic Party General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong has defended his decision to give waiver letters to some aspirants in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

According to him, the practice is normal and has been used in the party since time immemorial.

The Greater Accra executives of the party Tuesday rejected a waiver letter authored by Mr. Agyapong directing that three parliamentary aspirants pay ?15,000 instead of the required ?30,000.

The executives argued that the practice is alien to the party and its constitution.

But speaking to Okay FM Thursday, the former presidential spokesperson said the Greater Accra regional executives are being hypocritical.

“Waivers have always been used in our party.

“Past general secretaries have used it before; I am not the first person to be using it.

“I recall that it was used for deputy minority leader Dominic Nitiwul when he crossed-carpet from the PNC to the NPP, even when we were in government.

“As a party, we must be flexible in order to attract new voters to our fold because we need them to win power,” he stated.
