Akpaloo flirts with NDC

Presidential hopeful for the Independent People’s Party (IPP), Kofi Akpaloo is set to defect to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) anytime soon.

Credible information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that Mr. Akpaloo is currently holding talks with NDC gurus in the Ashanti region.

Akpaloo’s IPP could not meet the requirement of the Electoral Commission (EC) to take part in the 2012 elections.

Though no concrete deal has been reached, sources told DAILY GUIDE that talks between Akpaloo and some NDC kingpins were fruitful.

It is unknown whether Mr. Akpaloo has demanded money before joining the NDC.

The latest meeting was held at the Abusua Restaurant at Denyame in Kumasi last Friday night.

The paper spotted Akpaloo and Francis Dodovi of the NDC in a hearty chat at the forefront of the venue late in the night.

Mr. Akpaloo was also seen leaving the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi about a week ago in the company of some known NDC gurus in the region.

Sources said the meeting at the Golden Tulip was in line with plans by the NDC to woo Akpaloo to their fold.

DAILY GUIDE’s sources hinted that members of the NDC, for reasons best known to them, had adopted plans to poach key personalities from some small political parties in the country.

Akpaloo is reported to be high on the agenda of the NDC.

The move is geared towards proving to the citizenry that the NDC is still formidable, attractive and appealing, sources said.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that the NDC wants to woo people like Akapaloo for some last minute assignment.

The paper gathered that Mr. Akpaloo would be encouraged to move from one radio station to another to reassure the NDC supporters in the ongoing Supreme Court.

Apart from engagement at radio stations, these people would also organize press conferences and attack the NPP to create the impression that the party has no case in court.

Akpaloo suddenly became furious and yelled at the DAILY GUIDE reporter when contacted.

He denied claims that he held a meeting with a known NDC member in the region in relation with his possible defection to the ruling party.

He also warned DAILY GUIDE not to publish any false story about him.

Asked whether he held a meeting with Dodovi and other NDC gurus in the region at the Abusua Restaurant last Friday, Mr. Akpaloo refused to comment and switched off the phone.

He refused to pick further calls on Sunday evening around 5pm.
