The Akuapem North District Assembly has initiated 79 development projects out of which 59 are Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET Fund) projects.

Thirty of the projects have been complete and are in use and the remaining are on-going.

The projects include six-unit classroom block each at Awukugua, Okrakwadwo, Atabui, Nyame-Bekyere, Tinkong and Mangoase Junior High schools, two-storey classroom blocks for Mangoase, Mamfe Methodist Girls, Nifa and Benkum Senior High Schools.

Others are four-storey teachers’ flats, four-storey teachers’ quarters, two-storey boys’ dormitory block all at Benkum SHS at Larteh Akuapem, and a two-storey library for the School for the Blind at Akropong Akuapem.

The assembly is also constructing a water reservoir at Aseseaso to solve the Akuapem water problem and is also building rain harvesting facilities in four SHSs.

Mr. George Opare-Addo, the District Chief Executive told the GNA at Koforidua that the projects were centered on education because of the assembly’s commitment to the improvement of education in the area.

He said the projects were spread across the district to ensure a holistic approach to the district’s development agenda, and had distributed over 1,000 desks and teachers chairs to schools.

Some teachers from the Benkum SHS who are beneficiaries of the teachers’ flats told the GNA that hitherto most of them had to shuttle each day some as far as from Accra to the school.

They said with the construction of the flats they are now able to go the extra mile such as teaching the students sometimes in the evenings.**
