President Akufo-Addo has been accused of running a nepotistic government in the history of Ghana
The style of governance run by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, has been likened to that of Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku of Zaire and former Ugandan leader, Idi Amin Dada.
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team claims these African leaders were running nepotistic governance but observed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo taking into the account the calibre of appointments made into his government, is trying to surpass them.
“Akufo-Addo has appointed his daughters, brothers, in-laws, wives, cousins, nieces and nephews to occupy sensitive positions in government. Even Mobutu and Idi Amin did not show such kind of nepotism under their administration”, Sammy Gyamfi revealed on Adom TV.
He specifically mentioned Virginia Hesse, appointed as Ambassador to the Czech Republic; Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister; Duke Ofori Atta as a Presidential Advisor; Nana Asante Bediatuo as Secretary to the President; Kwesi Amoako Ofori Atta as Roads and Highways Minister; Samuel Atta Akyea as Works and Housing Minister and the appointment of Gyankroma Akufo-Addo to the creative arts council as examples of the nepotistic appointments.
While wondering if his close relations are the only qualified set of Ghanaians to occupy such enviable positions, he reminded the President of how he lambasted former President John Dramani Mahama and accused him of running a family and friends’ government.
“Are your relations the only qualified persons in the country? If that is what you mean you have indeed done well…. we will hail you indeed you have done well by appointing your brothers, wives, sisters, nieces, nephews, and fiancés into enviable positions. Look at the corruption that is ongoing in the country yet you are out there bragging you have done well in the administration of this country”, he added.
The ‘cash for seat saga’ he indicated has subjected the country to international shame revealing how the BBC is making fun of Ghana because they claim the most expensive seat is sold in the country.
“Even Jesus during his last supper did he sell his seat that much and you are selling a seat for $100,000. No single capital project has been embarked on yet are priding themselves as making achievements.
No single kilometre of the cocoa roads have they constructed. Not even a public toilet but they keep claiming they have chalked several successes where are all these successes? Stop governing the country with corrupt practices and deceit because Ghanaians are awake and watching what is going”, he concluded.
