Nkoranza (B/A), June 10, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the aspiring presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed to supporters of the party not to be dampened by the defeat in the 2008 election but rather to unite and step up the campaign to enhance the fortunes of the party in 2012.
He said the NPP in opposition was examining its shortfalls and addressing challenges that caused the defeat of the party. Nana Akufo-Addo was addressing more than 600 delegates and party supporters in Nkoranza South constituency at Nkoranza. He was in the constituency as part of his nationwide tour to seek the mandate of the delegates to lead the party in the 2012 general election. Nana Akufo-Addo said "since all things are transient, God has time for every thing on earth" and urged supporters of the party to exercise restraint for the NDC government to carry on with its developmental agenda during its term in office.
"Since the government is mismanaging the affairs of the country, the same electorate who voted them into power will change their decision in 2012", he said.
He expressed regret about the termination of appointments of some members of the NPP in state institutions as well as the seizure of vehicles by the government and said this would not help in promoting and consolidating the country's democratic governance.
He appealed to the party's hierarchy and supporters to bury their differences and avoid petty squabbles and internal wrangling that could put them into factions but to step up their to campaign to woo more people into the party for a resounding victory in the next general election. Nana Akufo-Addo gave the assurance that if he was given the nod in August he would provide funding for effective organization of the party structures "to match the NDC boot for boot."
He advised the youth of the party to be disciplined and to desist from using provocative language in their electioneering campaign in order not to create unnecessary confusion.
Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South, described Nana Akuffo-Addo as an experienced politician and urged the delegate to give him the nod.
Mr. Thomas Adu-Appiah, constituency chairman, appealed to supporters of the party to close their ranks and demonstrate unity of purpose to be able to tackle the diverse problems that led the party into opposition.
