A chairman aspirant for the Greater Accra region of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) , Mr. Stephen Akwetey has stated that the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akuffo Addo will lose massively when the nation goes to the polls in 2016.
According to Mr. Stephen Akwetey, the negative traits of Akuffo Addo as espoused during the heated race for the NPP's presidential primaries outweigh the positives therefore will be very difficult for the NPP to repackage Akuffo Addo as a better alternative to President John Mahama.
Mr. Akwetey who was speaking to journalist after handing over of business registration documents to the NDC leadership for the construction of 34 constituency offices opined that, Ghanaians are sensitive and discerning people and will not be easily swayed by the NPP propagandists who are now portraying Akuffo Addo as a saint after the party had exposed his numerous short-comings.
"If strong party leaders such as Mr. Alan Kyeremanten, Ohene Ntow, Richard Anane, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, Mpianim and others can tell Ghanaians that Akuffo Addo is not credible and fit to be President, what evidence do we need again to convince us that the NPP is not ready for leadership", he affirmed.
Mr. Stephen Akwetey further stated that as the economy improves the NDC will win heavily and better the results of 2012 elections and to continue with the better Ghana agenda of government. On his chances of winning the chairmanship of the Greater Accra region, Mr. Akwetey said he is motivated by the support and endorsement he has received from the NDC family who have come to realize that the party needs a new leadership in the region to boost the fortunes of the party.
"We have made mistakes in the past and it is appropriate we no more give our party to individuals whose only interest is in promoting personal agenda at the expense of the party goals and vision statement."
The one-time board member of Accra Hearts of Oak football club said his utmost priority is to lead a strong and committed regional executives to ensure that the party win back the confidence of our disenchanted party activists and to work tirelessly to prosecute operation 70% presidential vote for the NDC in the Greater Accra region.
Mr. Akwetey, a cadre and a former constituency chairman for Krowor argued that the Greater Accra region which is the epicenter of the country is strategically positioned to be of great resource to the party but the current leadership is short of ideas and innovations to make the party attractive to even its members.
Meanwhile, as pressure continue to mount on the embattled chairman Mr. Ade Coker to withdraw his re-election bid, the race for the Chairmanship of Greater Accra NDC seems to have whittled down to aspirants wishing to take over from the embattled incumbent chairman.
As the likes of Nii Tackie Commey, Daniel Amartey Mensah and Henry Manly- Spain are feverishly rounding up their campaigns, information has it that, Mr. Stephen Akwetey is said to grab the overwhelming votes of confidence of the NDC delegates.
Many of the affiliate groups of the party: Cadres front, Young Democrats, NDC TEIN group, Mahama ladies have all endorsed the chairmanship bid of Stephen Akwetey. While the Gadangme Youth Pressure Group in their recent endorsement of the aspirant has tasked Mr. Stephen Akwetey to unite with other aspirants in order to tap their resourcefulness for the best interest of the region when elected. In another development, the national leadership of the NDC and the Presidency have firmly lauded the various initiatives undertaken by Mr. Stephen Akwetey in the region and have urged others to emulate the industry and resourcefulness of the aspirant.
