Sorting and counting of ballots have commenced across all 119 polling stations in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region, following the close of polls in Tuesday’s by-election.

After ten hours of voting, election officials are now supervising the process under the watchful eyes of party agents, security personnel, accredited observers, and journalists.

The polling station results will be declared at the end of counting, ahead of the constituency-wide collation of results.

Large crowds of voters and party supporters have gathered around the polling centres to witness the process, which will determine the next Member of Parliament for Akwatia following the death of Ernest Yaw Kumi in July.

The Electoral Commission has indicated that final results are expected to be announced late Tuesday evening.

While voting was generally peaceful, isolated cases of violence were recorded in parts of the constituency.
