Akwatia, Nov. 17, GNA - Alhaji Baba Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Yenkro, has been re-elected Chairman of the Akwatia Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
At the party's delegates conference at the week-end, attended by about 500 delegates, Alhaji Yakubu polled 386 votes to beat Lt. Col. Kwaku Bremeng Andoh who had 76 votes.
The position of Secretary went to Eugene Acheampong, who defeated Mr Stephen Marfo by 399 votes to 55.
Mr Kofi Adomako Oheneba was elected Second Vice Chairman with 253 votes defeating Mr Mensah Okyere who polled 209 votes. The Organizer's position was retained by Mr Abubakari who had 331 votes as against Mr Ebenezer Okyere's 91 votes with Mr Kofi Agyei Gyimah polling 43 votes.
The position of Youth Organizer was won by Mr Kwadwo Owusu Andouna who polled 272 votes to beat Isaac Frempong who had 193 votes. Mr Bright Kofi Ntiamoah was elected Treasurer while Mr Isaac Annor Konoh was elected unopposed as Vice Chairman, Mr Stephen Adjei as assistant Secretary and Miss Kate Gyamfua as Women Organiser.
The elections were supervised by a team of officials from the Kwaebibirem District Office of the Electoral Commission led by Mr Grabriel Dei, District Officer.
Addressing the delegates before the polls, the Eastern Regional Chairman of NPP, Mr Yaw Amoabeng, said the battle to win the general election in 2012 was not going to be easy and only bold, imaginative, dedicated and selfless executive were needed to lead the party to victory. The immediate past Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Mr K. A. Kissi, asked delegates to vote for those who would not be found wanting when the going got tough but would struggle to ensure victory.
