Akwatia (E/R), Nov 26, GNA - Mr Edward Frimpong Pipim, Chairman of the Campaign Team of Mr Basil Kwadwo Ahiable, an independent parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, has explained why many people in the area have decided to throw their weight behind the independent candidate.
Addressing a well-attended rally at Akwatia Mr Pipim said the people regarded elections as a tool for development and would go any length to support a candidate they felt could help them to realise their dreams.
He said in the past they voted on party lines but that did not bring them the development they needed. "Examining critically all the candidates contesting the Akwatia Constituency seat in the December 7 poll, we realise that it is only Mr Ahiable who can lift the constituency from its present deteriorated state," he said.
He appealed to the citizens of the area who want to see Akwatia back to its past glory to rally behind Mr Ahiable. Mr Isaac A. Amonike, a member of the campaign team, said amenities the candidate had provided for some communities in the constituency from his own resources included boreholes, toilet facilities and street lights.
Mr Ahiable said past members of parliament had done their best but their best was not good enough to raise the constituency from its present decay.
He said he had made many contacts with investors when he was invited by Akwatia citizens in the United States of America recently to come and establish businesses in the area. Mr Ahiable said diamond, which the area was noted for, had been exhausted therefore the town needed to diversify its economic activities.
He said arrangements were far advanced for a first class computer engineering school that would provide degree courses in soft and hard ward computing to be set up at Akwatia as well as an oil palm industry. Mr Ahiable assured the electorate that he would not disappoint them when they voted him to Parliament.
