Defeated aspiring chairman of the Greater Accra Region branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Stephen Akwetey has admonished members of the party to eschew “individualism” and “selfishness” in order to make the party attractive going into the 2016 general elections.
He, therefore, called on all defeated aspirants to rally behind the newly elected executives led by Joseph Ade Coker.
The former Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) man was speaking at a press conference held on Thursday, November 20.
He was one of the four candidates who challenged incumbent regional chairman in elections held last Saturday at the Ghanatta Senior High School.
Mr Akwetey polled 52 votes to come third behind Mr Ade Coker and Daniel Amartey Mensah.
“I will continue with all the projects I have started even though I did not win the elections,” he told journalists.
“I have decided whole-heartedly to choose this path moving forward because I believe that the NDC can only become attractive once again to voters in 2016 and beyond if we all eschew individualism and selfishness.”
He asked all and sundry to come together “and put our collective energies, ideas, plans and resources at the disposal of the party irrespective of whether you hold any position in the party or not.”
The election was to get the regional executives in place ahead of the party's national delegates’ congress on December 12/13.
