Daniel Teiko, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Team, has criticized the actions of Alan Kyerematen, the flagbearer of the Movement for Change, during the funeral of the late John Kumah.

Teiko accused Kyerematen of declaring "war" on the NPP by refusing to shake hands with the NPP's Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Speaking on a panel discussion on Wontumi TV on May 27, 2024, Teiko suggested that Kyerematen's actions are part of a broader strategy to weaken the NPP's popularity in the region, potentially diverting votes to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.

"The aim of Alan is to make the NPP unpopular in the region by losing significant votes to him to favour the NDC," Teiko said.

The controversy comes on the heels of the recent arrest of Hopeson Adorye, a member of Kyerematen's movement, who allegedly admitted to using dynamite during the 2016 elections to intimidate voters in the NDC stronghold of the Volta Region.

Teiko criticized the conduct of Kyerematen and his followers, stating, "The Afrafranto is not a party; it is just a movement, and they don't have a direction. They have made up their mind to destroy the NPP. They don't have any plan, so if you are an NPP member and you follow them to attack the party, you have to know that you are destroying your future."

Highlighting the incident at John Kumah's funeral, Teiko emphasized the importance of decorum and respect, regardless of personal disagreements.

"Even if you don't like somebody, you have to greet the person to show respect to the program that you are in. He has allowed himself to be used by the NDC to destroy the party…he declared war at the program.

"He declared war not on Chairman Wontumi but on the NPP. So, anybody that loves the NPP and is following the Afrafranto should know that the direction of the Afrafranto is to destroy the NPP," he asserted.
