Alan has written his political obituary… – Owusu Bempah

Communications Director for the National Democratic Party (NDP), Ernest Owusu Bempah strongly believes former Trade and Industry Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng, one of the flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has written his "political obituary" and nailed his presidential ambition in the "coffin" for contesting Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking in an interview with Peacefmonline.com, Owusu Bempah insists that Alan Kyeremateng has lost credibility before the party's delegates due to his past record in the NPP.

The NDP communications director alluded to the resignation of Mr. Alan Kyeremateng from the party after failing to defeat Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the NPP Congress a couple of years ago.

According to him, it was a grave political error on the part of Mr. Kyeremateng.

Commenting on the just-ended NPP Special Congress on Sunday, August 31, 2014, Owusu Bempah stated, “clearly, he has written his political obituary, and it’s going to be very difficult for him to bounce back in Ghanaian politics because, as you can see, it’s a very difficult situation for him; I mean when he comes back…"

He explained that, "because he’s a candidate who was among the lot who resigned from the party and then came back to contest…that he defied all odds and went ahead and contested Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo clearly tells you that Alan Kyeremateng was not calculative enough in his political future and he was not strategic enough in his political future."

Owusu Bempah held strongly that Alan Kyeremateng cannot become the President of the Republic of Ghana.

"He has shot himself in the foot and he has written his own political obituary. That is that in the near future, he has nailed himself in the coffin, and there’s no way he can come back and take up the leadership mantle of his own political party in the near future," he said.

The NDP communicator also urged the four other flagbearer aspirants who have sailed through for the October 18 NPP presidential primaries to rally behind the party's 2012 flagbearer.

Ernest Owusu Bempah described the NPP's congress in October as an "irrelevant" venture.

He admonished the aspirants to throw their weight behind one candidate, who obviously is Nana Addo and build a formidable force, come 2016.

He also called on the NPP to take a cue from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), a party he says supported the late President John Evans Atta Mills for three consecutive times till he won the Presidential contest.

He insisted that Alan Kyeremateng and the other aspirants should all join forces with Nana Addo and therefore rescind their decision to embark on a "frivolous" journey on October this year.

“Why can’t the New Patriotic Party do the same thing in the name of power, if the people of Ghana want to accept that particular candidate they vote for? Looking at the candidate, how he has been sold to the ordinary Ghanaian and how the campaign strategy is going to be. It’s very very important.

“So to me, I think it’s irrelevant for the New Patriotic Party to go for another congress…we all know that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is going to emerge as the flagbearer of the party…There’s no formula in democracy. And anyway that they do it whether it’s unanimous acclamation which the NDC has done it before; I think it will be in the best position to help the New Patriotic Party.”

The party further congratulated the aspirants and delegates for conducting a peaceful Special Congress across the country over the weekend.

“On my behalf of my political party, the National Democratic Party congratulates the New Patriotic Party for conducting themselves peacefully and conducting the congress in a successful manner. I think that it’s a giant step in the democratic process of our country.”
