Alan launches campaign today

Barring any last minute hitches, one of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, will launch his campaign towards the party’s October 18 presidential primary today.

Mr. Kyerematen was among the ‘lucky’ five who made it after the August 31, 2014 Special Delegates’ Conference to trim the number of aspirants vying for the presidential slot of the party from seven to five.

However, two of them- Kofi Osei-Ameyaw and Joe Ghartey- have dropped out of the race leaving Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyerematen and Francis Addai-Nimoh; one of whom will be elected the standard bearer next month to lead the party for election 2016.

Out of the 741 ballots cast at the recent congress, Alan Kyerematen obtained 59 votes, representing 8.01% while Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo garnered a whopping 598, representing 81.28%.

A statement issued in Accra on Thursday and signed by Kofi Dzamesi, Campaign Manager for the “Alan Kyerematen for President 2016,” said he (Kyerematen) “will formally launch his campaign on Saturday, 13 September, 2014, at Abeka-Lapaz in Accra.”

It said Mr. Kyerematen’s desire to lead the party was borne out of his sincere belief that he is capable of uniting and leading the NPP to recapture power in 2016.

According to Mr. Dzamesi, for Ghana to move forward, the nation needs transformational leadership – which means bold, visionary and inspiring leadership backed by action, hard work, discipline, a passion for excellence and a renewed sense of national consciousness and pride in the people’s core values as Ghanaians.

Following Kofi Osei-Ameyaw’s withdrawal from the race a couple of days ago, Alan Kyerematen has stressed that he was not bothered about the decision that the former had declared his support for Nana Akufo-Addo.

He was of a strong conviction that Mr. Osei-Ameyaw’s last-minute action would not have any direct effect on the outcome of the NPP’s presidential contest.

Nana Ohene-Ntow, spokesperson for Alan, had stated that his boss was focused and adequately prepared to snatch victory in the party’s upcoming national delegates congress.

He added that nothing, including, Mr. Osei-Ameyaw’s open declaration of support for Nana Addo could dampen the spirit of Alan.

Nana Ohene Ntow said Alan Kyerematen would use the launching of his campaign to re-echo his desire to lead the NPP to wrest political power from the NDC after two successive electoral defeats the party had suffered in 2008 and 2012.

Nana Ohene-Ntow disclosed that Alan’s campaign team had invited the national executives of the NPP and the party’s Members of Parliament (MPs) to the function, stating that they were expecting a colossal crowd at the event.
