Alan not buying votes with promises – Longdon

The camp of Alan Kyerematen has parried vote-buying charges levelled against him by Nana Akufo-Addo’s camp, following a litany of promises he made to party executives in the Volta Region on Thursday.

The former Ambassador to the United States, who is seeking to become the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, promised to supply grassroots executives with motorbikes, mobile phones, as well as pay their full salaries and also wire money to the through mobile money transfer systems, if he is elected flagbearer.

Kyerematen is in the race with two-time flagbearer and presidential candidate Akufo-Addo and legislator Francis Addai Nimoh.

Following Kyerematen’s campaign promises, Akufo-Addo’s 2012 Campaign Coordinator, Boakye Agyarko, accused him of seeking to buy the conscience and votes of the Delegates, who will be electing one of the three contestants at the party’s October 18 congress.

However, a member of the Kyerematen campaign team, Philip Longdon, told STARR NEWS Thursday that Kyerematen does not intend fulfilling those promises from his pocket.

According to him, the former Trade and Industries Minister will leverage on his fundraising skills to pool resources together towards empowering the grassroots executives of the party.

Longdon therefore disagreed that his boss’ promises amounted to vote buying.

An Electoral College of about 141,000 delegates will take part in the mega congress, which will elect a flagbearer for the party ahead of the 2016 elections.
