Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Nov. 12, GNA- Mr John Alan Kyeremanten, a Presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the weekend pledged to provide a pick-up each for all the Party's constituencies in the country if he was given the nod as the presidential candidate for the 2008 general election.
In addition, he said, the constituencies would each receive an undisclosed amount of money to engage in income generating ventures to help run the party at the grass roots level. Addressing polling station chairmen and party faithful in Dormaa East and West constituencies at Dormaa-Ahenkro, Mr Kyeremanten said: "If you don't have money you cannot do active politics", stressing the importance to motivate foot soldiers to enable them to work hard in the electioneering campaign to retain the ruling party next year. He asked members and supporters of the party not to concentrate much on the December primaries to elect the flag bearer but rather to focus attention on the general election, which he said, was very crucial to the NPP.
"If NPP is not there we cannot elect a presidential candidate", Mr Kyeremanten said and urged polling station chairmen to embark on an intensive house-to-house campaign to explain government policies to woo more people to join the party.
Mr Kyeremanten earlier paid a courtesy call on the Dormaa traditional council and gave the assurance that the government would continue to take advice and counseling from chiefs in initiating and implementing programmes and policies.
He said since traditional authorities were the embodiment of the people, there was the need to ensure regular contacts with them to know and address the problems facing the people. Mr Kyeremanten called on the chiefs to rally solidly behind him and to help approve his candidature to lead the NPP in the 2008 elections.
