The Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli West, Hon. Alban Bagbin has been awarded by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in recognition of his immense contributions as an Executive Committee member of the association. The award was bestowed on Hon. Bagbin during a recent executive committee meeting and 61st General Assembly of the CPA in the UK.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is an organisation and a platform of Parliamentarians of Commonwealth countries which works to support good governance, democracy and human rights.
Hon. Sumana Bagbin’s background as a lawyer and great experience in parliamentary practices and procedures, spanning over 20 years, enabled him to successfully serve on various committees of the CPA from 2001- 2010. Aside his immense contributions to the Association, Hon. Bagbin successfully marketed the Ghanaian Parliament and Ghana as a whole.
Presently, Hon. Bagbin is leading an advocacy drive to reform the Association from that of a charity organisation under the United Kingdom(UK) law to an international diplomatic organisation. To this end, Hon. Bagbin is among other things, working to ensure the amendment of some articles in the association’s constitution, particularly articles 35 and 37. He is now a Consultant to the Association.
