Yendi (N/R), Sept. 4, GNA - Alhaji Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu, Member of Parliament of Yendi has been elected by acclamation to contest Election 2004 on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). All the 41 delegates present out of the 62 expected confirmed his election.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Yakubu pledged to lead the Party to victory in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in the Constituency.
He appealed to Ghanaians to return the NPP Government to power to enable it to continue with its developmental programmes nationwide. He said the Government had constructed schools, clinics and roads during its tenure and this should qualify it for another term. In an address read for Alhaji Mahama Dokpon, NPP Constituency Chairman, he commended the Party delegates for coming out in their numbers to confirm Alhaji Yakubu as the Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency.
He explained that two candidates, Alhaji Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu and Alhaji Lukman Iddirisu filed to contest as parliamentary candidates but Alhaji Iddrisu was disqualified during the vetting.
Alhaji Dokpon appealed to all the party supporters to unite and rally behind the Alhaji Yakubu for the Party to maintain the seat. The whole process of the election was very peaceful.
