National Nasara Coordinator hopeful of the governing New Patriotic Party, Ali Suraj has appealed to the leadership of the party to reconsider the date for the party's Congress.

Below is the statement

ALI SURAJ PLEADS WITH THE LEADERSHIP OF THE NPP TO RECONSIDER THE NATIONAL CONGRESS DATE

The new patriotic party since its inception has championed and continue to champion the welfare and development of the Zongo community and for that matter Islam and Muslims. The many policies of the erstwhile Kuffour-led administration and Nana Addo's government are all geared towards the development of Zongo. Mention can be made to the free maternal care, health insurance, Zongo development fund, Zongo ministry and many others. It is also on record that the NPP is the only political party which has given two Muslims the rare opportunity of serving as Vice Presidents. Even though the NDC accrued more than half of their total votes from the Zongo communities, they have paid lip services to the demands and concerns of the Zongo enclaves.

Yesterday, the general secretary of our great party addressed the press and mention among other things the modalities and the date for the impending national congress. However I find that the stipulated date will conflict the occasion of Eid-ul fitr which is very important to Muslims throughout the world and for that matter Muslims in the party especially my Nasara coordinators and their deputies.

'Sallah' as the occasion of Eid-ul fitr is affectionately called in our part of the world is revered by Muslims, the two preceding days after the Eid are days for merrymaking in all Islamic homes, thus if the date of the elections remains unchanged, it will deprive the Muslims in the party of enjoying the feast. It is also worthy of note that Eid-ul fitr day is a public holiday. It is for these reasons that in all humility, I am pleading with the leadership of our great party to listen to the voice of a humble Zongorian by reconsidering the date. I am very optimistic that the leadership will heed to my request. Thank you.

Signed

Ali Suraj

(National Nasara Coordinator hopeful).
