Aliu launches NPP's Election Campaign in Brong Ahafo

Fiapre (B/A) Oct. 31, GNA - Vice President Aliu Mahama on Sunday launched the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) election campaign in the Brong Ahafo Region at a mammoth rally at Fiapre and urged the people to renew the mandate of the ruling Party in the December Polls to enable it to continue with its agenda to better the living standard of Ghanaians.

He said the NPP Administration had chalked significant success in line with its objective of effecting a positive change in the lives of Ghanaians and deserved another term to strengthen its achievements. "Another four years would see more roads rehabilitated and tarred; more schools to deliver quality education, more health facilities, good governance and generally a better life for all," he said, to loud cheers and applause from the crowd, which had anxiously awaited for the Vice President's arrival for a number of hours.

"Four more years! Four more years!" They enthusiastically shouted after him.

Vice President Mahama, who arrived at Sunyani in the morning, visited four towns in the Asutifi Constituency and addressed the Chiefs and people at separate durbars. He also addressed a well-attended durbar at Sunyani Zongo.

He mentioned the record achievement of more than 700,000 tonnes in cocoa production, which he attributed to the mass cocoa spaying exercise and other high technology interventions and the positive economic indicators as some of the successes of the Administration.

"We have encouraged the freedom of speech so much that it is like we have achieved a second independence for Ghana because people express themselves freely without fear," he said.

He thanked Ghanaians for expressing genuine appreciation for the development projects executed in their areas, saying he had no doubt that they would massively vote for the NPP.

"Wherever we go across the country the people voluntarily praise us for the good work we have done and we are grateful to Ghanaians," he said. "It is the Almighty God who has brought us this far." He repeated his slogan for the campaign: "Who say man no dey?" And the people shouted in response: "Kufuor dey!"

The Vice President then introduced the various NPP Parliamentary Candidates in the Region, who included Professor Ameyaw Akumfi, Minister of Ports Harbours and Railways; Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and Mr Ernest A. Debrah, Minister of Northern Region.

He asked the people to vote for them as their representatives because they had the experience and competence to serve them well. In the Asutifi Constituency, the Vice President asked the people to support Mr Thomas Broni, who has been elected the NPP's Parliamentary Candidate to replace Mrs Cecilia Amoah, the sitting MP.

He said in democratic governance it was common for governments, elected officer and government appointees to be replaced either through elections or nominations, adding that it was important for people to deal peacefully with such changes and support the system to progress. Those who were replaced, he said, could serve society in different capacities and roles and must, therefore, look for new opportunities to do so.

He told the people that their needs would be addressed in due course, with their roads tarred, while a bridge would be constructed over the River Tano.

Mrs Amoah asked the people to forget the acrimony that characterised the primaries and support Mr Broni to win the seat. 31 Oct. 04
