Amansie Central NPP to work for more membership

Jacobu (Ash), Jan 2, GNA - Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Amansie Central District have been asked to work towards the expansion of the party to guarantee victory in the 2008 general elections. At an end-of-year meeting of the constituency and polling station executives attended by the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Emmanuel A. Gyamfi, the party members were asked to forge in unity, love and understanding.

The meeting which was called by the District Chief Executive, Mr Kwame Asamoah-Boateng, afforded members the opportunity to review the activities of the party during the year and the way forward. Addressing them, Mr Asamoah-Boateng expressed dissatisfaction about the way some party members continue to close their eyes to the good work of the party and the government. He said it was time the practice of "We have not seen anything" syndrome be stopped and rather advertise the government's good policies and programmes to the people. Mr Asamoah-Boateng said, "If nothing had been done at all, the government under President Kufuor had given us a new district". He said with the presence of the district assembly, the area had seen remarkable development, adding that within a year, the assembly had built 28 schools and five clinics. "Work on the Abuakwa clinic for example is on-going".

Mr Asamoah-BOateng said about 90 per cent of roads in the district had been improved to enhance movement of goods and services. He said the assembly was supporting some students through its scholarship scheme whilst some farmers too were being supported with funds under the poverty alleviation initiative. The district has benefited from the government's Youth Employment Programme under which some 296 young people have been taken on in the teaching, nursing and agriculture modules. The MP asked the members to assist the assembly in generating enough revenue to help the assembly implement more development programmes.
