Another woman has joined the race to contest the Tikobo Number One District Assembly Elections in the Jomoro District of the Western Region, following the re-opening of nominations by the Electoral Commission.
This brings to four the number of women to contest the election in the district.
They are Ms Vivian Adwobah, a food vendor from Tikobo Number One, and Ms Victoria Ocran, 39, teacher from Bonyere Ackah Suazo Electoral Area.
The others are Ms Louisa Iris Arde, 36, Bonyere Ekegyinla and Ms Comfort A. Ntoni, 59, Bawia/Nvellenu Electoral Areas, both teachers.
The Jomoro District Electoral Officer, Mr Isaac Ano Otoo, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Half-Assini said Ms Adwobah, the new entrant will battle with three men for the Tikobo Number One position.
He said initially the women contenders were three.
Mr Otoo added that two Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) are also in the competition.
They are Mr George Kwame Ezonle, 39, lotto seller, Adonwozo Electoral Area, Half-Assini, and Mr William Akromah Nyame, 40, teacher, Anlomatuope Electoral Area near Half-Assini.
According to the District Electoral Officer, a total of 113 people have filled their nominations to contest the 34-member Assembly seats.
He disclosed that a total of 223 candidates, including 15 women, are contesting in the Unit Committee Elections, adding that both elections will take place on September 1.
Women are poorly represented in the Jomoro District Assembly.
It would be re-called that in the last District Assembly Election, all the three women who filed their nominations to contest the elections, lost to their male counterparts.
A few women in the Assembly are government appointees.
