The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate (PC) for the Anyaa Sowutuom constituency, Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the appointment of New Patriotic Party (NPP) PC for Manso Nkwanta, Tweneboah Kodua Fokuo, as the new Managing Director of the state-owned National Investment Bank (NIB).

Kodua Fokuo's appointment, which took effect on Monday, May 13, 2024, was announced in a memo to NIB staff stating that the "majority shareholder" of the bank had appointed him.

The decision to appoint the NPP PC for Manso Nkwanta has encountered significant criticism from the minority and other economists over his political affiliations and interests.

Some analysts insist that the appointment by the president will worsen the already distressed bank.

Emmanuel Allotey, an economist and former General Manager of Innovate Solutions Limited, a subsidiary of Fidelity Bank Ghana Limited, argues that appointing a parliamentary candidate from the ruling party to such a critical and influential position within a state-owned financial institution is indicative of political favouritism and undermines the principles of fair governance and transparency.

"How can a Parliamentary Candidate of the NPP [Tweneboah Kodua Fokuo] be appointed as the MD for NIB bank? There is so much impunity and less regard for the laws of this nation," he said in a Facebook post sighted by GhanaWeb.

Reflecting on his own experience, Allotey recounted his dismissal from Innovate Solutions Limited, which he claims was politically motivated.

"In my case, I built a subsidiary of a private bank with no funds and turned it into a profitable firm. But I was ousted because the NDC decided to make me a parliamentary candidate," he stressed.

"A Chief of Staff's daughter cannot watch me continue to manage the subsidiary," he asserted.

Expressing his dismay at the situation, Allotey remarked, "God have mercy on all of us!!!"
