Kumasi, July 10, GNA- Mr Justice Asafo-Adjei, one of the aspiring parliamentary candidates of the NPP in the New Edubiase constituency, has denied using his position as the Special Assistant to the General Secretary of the party to impose himself on the constituency.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in reaction to recent allegations against him by some constituency executives of the party, Mr Asafo-Adjei pointed out that, it was not the General Secretary who was motivating him to contest the primaries as was being speculated in the constituency.
He said even though he was not a registered voter in the constituency, as a native of New Edubiase and a registered voter in the country, he qualifies to stand for elections in the constituency as stipulated in the 1992 constitution.
According to Mr Asafo-Adjei, Article 94 sub section 1b of the 1992 constitution says "a person shall not be qualified to be a member of parliament unless he is resident in the constituency for which he stands as a candidate for election to parliament or he hails from the constituency".
He said with Article 94, "no one has the right to protest against his candidature in the primaries".
Mr Asafo-Adjei said he had all the qualities and competencies to win the seat for the NPP and appealed to his supporters to stay calm and pray for him to win the primaries.
He said when elected, he would team up with all the constituency executives and polling station chairmen to mount an efficient campaign strategy to wrestle the seat from the NDC.
