Jacobu (Ash), June 29, GNA - The newly created Amansie Central District Assembly in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly to confirm Mr Kwame Asamoah-Boateng as the first District Chief Executive for the area. In an election supervised by the Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr Yorke Aidoo and witnessed by Mr S.K. Boafo, the Ashanti Regional Minister and Mr Kofi Opoku Adusei, the Deputy Minister of Local Government and rural Development, 21 out of the 22 assemblymembers present voted 'yes' with one spoilt vote. The assembly is made up 23 members.
"I am happy to announce that you have helped me to make the voting peaceful and that with 95.4 per cent vote, more than the required two-thirds majority, you have cause to celebrate that Mr Asamoah-Boateng is your District Chief Executive," the Regional Electoral Commission boss said after the voting.
The Ashanti Regional Minister on behalf of the President congratulated the assemblymembers for their sense of judgement. Mr Boafo said since the district was new there were a number of challenges but "I have the hope that with consensus, the district will progress.
The confirmed DCE expressed appreciation to the President and the assemblymembers for the honour done him and pledged his commitment to work to justify the trust reposed in him. He admitted that the new district lacked development but with the creation of the area as a separate entity from Amansie East, the area was going to and development. "The way you have voted to confirm me, we are going to units and collectively develop the district", Mr Asamoah-Boateng stressed.
