Konongo (Ash), May 13, GNA- Various Youth Groups within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Asante Akim North Constituency have held a mammoth rally at Konongo to unite the two factions created during the recent Parliamentary Primaries in the Constituency.

The Primaries led to a split within the supporters of the Party, which saw Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), being retained to contest the general elections. Mr Baah-Wiredu beat his main challenger Mr Andy Appiah Kubi. The youth groups, including the Nasara Club, Ahenbronun Unity Club, NPP Parliament, NPP Youth Wing and NPP Women's Wing combined to hold the rally to unite the supporters of the two candidates. As a sign of unity, the two factions swapped the "T-Shirts" of the two candidates to demonstrate that they belong to the same party and were not enemies.

Mr Stephen Boampong, spokesperson for the groups said at the rally that, it was imperative for the interest of the party to surpass all individual ambitions. He said the NPP believed in democracy, hence, there is the need for the followers of the two candidates to put behind their differences and join forces to ensure a landslide victory for the party in the general elections.

He urged Mr Baah-Wiredu and Mr Appiah Kubi to lead the crusade of uniting the supporters, saying, their influence was crucial to the task. Mr Agyemang Duku, Constituency Secretary of the Party, said the task ahead was enormous and required the support of all members, especially the youth. He commended the youth for the initiative and called for more of such innovative strategies in order to increase the support base of the party prior to the December elections.
