Juaso (Ash), May 9, GNA - The Asante-Akim South Constituency Primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was on Friday called off indefinitely. This followed a court injunction placed on the election by Mr. Kwabena Nketia-Sakyi, a Kumasi based businessman, who was disqualified from contesting by the Regional Vetting Committee of the party. Mr. Sakyi, who filed his nomination to contest the seat, was disqualified three days to the election. A letter dated signed by Mr. Robert Owusu Amankwaah, Regional Chairman of the party, stated that Mr. Sakyi "did not take active part in the activities of the party in the constituency". It further accused him of not being a card bearing member of the party in the constituency. The delegates were not aware of the injunction and converged at Juaso for the primary. Mr. Sakyi was to contest the seat with Mrs. Gifty Ohene- Konadu, the Member of Parliament and Mr. Alex Kwaku-Korankye, the former MP.
