Asawase MP spends common fund on Education Infrastructure

Kumasi, Nov. 20 GNA 96 Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase has since last year spent 700 million cedis of his share of the MP's common Fund on the development of Education infrastructure of basic schools in his constituency.

He cited the provision of dual-desks, additional classrooms, and the rehabilitation of dilapidated classroom blocks for about 20 basic schools in the constituency to help boost teaching and learning. The MP made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview After he inaugurated a two-unit classroom block for the Akorem Metropolitan Authority (MA) Junior Secondary school (JSS) at a ceremony over the week-end.

The classroom block project, which costs 96 million cedis was funded through the MP's share of the common fund with support from Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

The provision of the classroom block is to help address the acute accommodation problem facing the school as a result of increased enrolment due to the introduction of the capitation grant.

Alhaji Mubarak underscored the need for the youth to do away with negative practices and instead expend their energies in profitable ventures to realise their lifetime aspirations since it was the youth that formed the backbone of the Nation's economy.

Whiles affirming his commitment to explore all avenues in the development of his constituency, he called on the Muslim communities to embrace secular education to improve upon their living standards. Mrs. Elzabeth Owusu-Akyiaw, headmistress of the Akorem JSS commended the MP for the kind gesture and his commitment to improve upon educational standards in the constituency.
