The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti has expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the region in this year’s general elections.

“We would make a strong showing, Mr Abass Mubarak Abass, the Asante-Akim South Constituency Organizer, told the Ghana News Agency in Jauso.

Ashanti has traditionally been allied with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) but he said the NDC would garner enough votes to propel it to resounding victory and “we were working hard to make this happen.”

We are in no doubt about the fact that the party’s performance in Ashanti could prove decisive in the NDC’s re-election bid. This is why we are working strenuously to win over more voters ahead of the polls.

Mr Abass made reference to his constituency and vowed to capture the parliamentary seat that had been held by the NPP since 1996.

The vote difference between the two major political parties in the last election stood at 10,000. The NDC received 13,000 votes as against the NPP’s 23,000 votes.

He said they are ready for the challenge and remain confident of overturning the deficit.

Mr Abass called on the party’s supporters to turn out in their numbers to register in the upcoming biometric voter registration.**
