Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Assembly Members want Anfako back

Odoben, C/R, June 20, GNA - Some members of the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Assembly have appealed to the President J A Kufuor to nominate Mr Sampson Kwame Anfako as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for a second term in office to promote development. They have pledged their support for him to be re-nominated to enable him to continue his good work to improve infrastructure their electoral areas.

Mr Anthony Amoako, Assemblyman for Odoben Electoral Area and spokesman of the members told newsmen at Odoben on Saturday that Mr Anfako deserved a second term because he "transformed" the district during his four years in office. He said the rejection of Mr Emmanuel Doomson showed that they wanted the former DCE to continue in office.

Mr Amoako stated that the Assembly Members exercised their democratic right without fear or favour and said it was unfortunate that some people were peddling rumours that they were bribed with one million cedis each to reject Mr Doomson. He condemned the attack, threats and insults heaped on them last Thursday by some irate youth after the Assembly had rejected Mr Doomson's nomination at Breman Asikuma.

Mr Amoako said the Assembly Members wanted Mr Anfako because under him more than 46 projects were executed in the district over the last four years, adding that, every electoral area had its fair share of the Common Fund and other government interventions.

According to Mr Amoako, through the hard work and effective monitoring mechanism put in place by Mr Anfako, the District was declared the best out of the then 23 Districts in the Central and Western regions under the Village Infrastructure Project (VIP). He stated that VIP documents prepared at the end of the programme last year commended the Asikuma-Ododen-Brakwa District Chief Executive for his prudent management and judicious use of funds for the benefit of the people.

Mr Amoako noted that the World Bank also chose the district for a case study to prepare the Poverty Reduction Strategy document for the country. He stressed that members of the Assembly appreciated the contribution of the DCE to the development of the District and stood the chance of getting their nod should the President nominate him to continue "The excellent work that he did".
