Assin Foso (C/R) July 11 GNA-The Assin District Registration Review Committee on Thursday dismissed four out of the seven challenge cases brought before it in connection with Voters Registration Exercise. Three of the dismissed cases related to under-aged, while the rest alleged that the voters registered outside their areas of residence. Addressing members of the Assin District Heads of Departments and Senior Officers Association at its monthly meeting at Assin Foso, Mr Isaac Owusu, District Electoral Officer, said two of the three cases upheld challenged the nationality of the voters, while the remaining was on double registration.

The Electoral Officer said the Registration Review Committee, made up of a representative each from the four active political parties in the District, Ghana Education Service, Police, Traditional Council and the Electoral Commission heard evidence from the challenged and the challengers and made an on-the-spot investigation in some of the cases by travelling to the respective communities where they listened to testimonies from some community leaders and parents of the affected persons.

On the turnout of the photo-registration exercise in the District, Mr Owusu said the district recorded an average of 90,762, representing 93.5 per cent out of the recorded 97,057 registered voters in the District.

In the Assin North constituency, Mr Owusu said 53,674 out of the 57,515 registered voters had their photographs taken while 37,088 out of the 39,542 registered voters were covered in the Assin South. The Electoral Officer said the Commission would soon come out with the modalities for the coverage of the 6,295 voters in the District that could not have their photographs taken.

He urged all voters to check their names and other voter particulars when the exhibition time came so that they could effect corrections where necessary.
