Spokesperson for the Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has described as ‘gibberish’ the attempt by the ruling NDC to link Nana Akufo-Addo to the arrested three South African supposed ‘mercenaries’.
Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show indicted Nana Akufo-Addo for sending the three retired police officers from South Africa to train some youth for election violence in 2016.
Three retired South African Police Officers were picked up at Agona Duakwa in the Central Region for allegedly engaging in activities that threaten the nation’s security.
The three – Major Ahmed Shaik (retd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwahye, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 – were picked up at the EL-Capitano Hotel where they had been based since arriving in the country early this month.
They were said to be training some young people in various security drills, including unarmed combat, weapon handling, VIP protection techniques and rapid response manoeuvres.
But a furious NPP Adentan Parliamentary candidate on the same platform averred the attempt by the NDC to use similar tactics they employed to destroy Nana Akufo-Addo’s name and also deceive Ghanaians in 2012 will not fly in this year's elections.
He wondered the locus of Koku Anyidoho in the security agencies to be the one speaking for them; pressing that it is strange the government with all the security resources has not arrested Captain Koda over the allegation that he brought the 3 South Africans training some youth in Agona Duakwa in the Central Region.
“This gibberish attempt by the NDC will not be tolerated again; they used ‘all-die-be-die’ against Nana Akufo-Addo and during the 2012 election petition, Nana Addo demonstrated how peaceful he is by accepting the verdict of the Supreme Court when it was clear something went wrong. Now they want to use this to tag Nana Akufo Addo as someone who wants to use violent means to win power; this time it won’t wash, trust me”, he assured.
He stressed that “Koku Anyidoho should be talking about the drug-baron in the house of the governor of Bank of Ghana and i think Koku Anyidoho wants us to link President Mahama in that drug trade involving the governor of Bank of Ghana. If the likes of Koku Anyidoho are the President’s advisors, then there is no hope for the country”.
He maintained that the tactics of the NDC to tarnish the name of Akufo-Addo have now realised; adding that Ghanaians are thinking of accessing better living conditions and jobs and not to dwell on issues which don’t benefit their lives.
