Abuakwa (Ash), Nov 2, GNA - Oheneba Osei Bonsu was on Tuesday re-elected chairman of the Atwima-Nwabiagya constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at elections held at Abuakwa. He polled 143 votes as against 84 votes polled by his challenger, Mr Amankwah Yeboah.
Mr Daniel Dzameshie polled 127 votes to beat Mr Stephen Kofi Domfeh who had 95 votes for the post of First Vice Chairman. The incumbent constituency secretary, Mr James Adu-Tutu retained his post with 132 votes as against 42 votes polled by Mr Anane Frimpong. Mr Joseph Osei Kwabena toppled Mr Obiri Yeboah as the constituency organizer securing 126 votes against 30 votes by Mr Yeboah and Mr Peter Adu, the third contestant, had 60 votes. Mr Maxwell Opoku was declared unopposed as deputy constituency organizer while Mallam Mohammed Opoku lost his post as the treasurer to Mr Anthony Ofosuhene.
The post of propaganda secretary went to Mr Hamza Mohammed who polled 118 votes as against 93 votes by Mr Daniel Dogbe, the other contestant.
There was controversy over the women's organiser's position. Madam Mohammed Zefau, the incumbent organizer claimed that the election for the women's organizer position that was held on August 10 at Abuakwa Zongo was not properly conducted.
She claimed that only women contest for the women's organizer in any organization and therefore only women are eligible to vote. Madam Zefau said at the election out of the 59 votes, only six were women's votes and therefore asked the Ashanti Regional executive of the party to declare the results null and void.
Speaking after the elections, Opanin Kwaku Duah, the Atwima-Nwabiagya NDC father and Mr Emmanuel Nti-Fordjour, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, advised the new executives and the party's supporters to close their ranks and work together as a team to enable the party win the 2008 elections.
