Members of the Patriots of Awutu, a pressure group have called on the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Mr George Andah to step down as MP for the area to enable them to choose a suitable candidate who will help to transform the lives of the people of Awutu Senya West.

This follows a recent survey conducted by the political science department of the University of Ghana.

The survey revealed that if elections were held today, about 49.5 per cent of Ghanaians will vote out their Members of Parliament (MPs) due to their poor performance.

The survey also revealed that 42.6 per cent of the respondents are ready to retain their MPs with 7.9 per cent of the respondents undecided about whom to vote for.

Regional level

In two regions, 50% or more would vote for the incumbents: Volta (56.4%) & Oti (50.0%), the report said.

“In nine others, 40% or more would vote for the incumbents: Savanna (48.7%), Ashanti (45.7%), Bono East (45.7%), Ahafo (45.5%), Northern (45.3%), Western North (45.2%), Upper West (42.7%), Eastern (41.7%) & Central (40.7%).

In the other five regions, only 30% or more would vote for the incumbents: Western (38.5%), Bono (35.7%), Upper East (35.3%), Greater Accra (34.5%) & North East (32.9%)

In four regions, more than 10% were undecided: Western North (16.0%), North East (14.1%) Upper East (10.2%) & Savanna (10.0%),” it added.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 13 June 2019 and signed by the president of the group, Eric Darko, the group noted that it has “read a report on survey conducted by the political Science Department of University of Ghana, Legon” and that as a group, it “felt sad though it was not surprised with the outcome.”

According to the group, it is disappointed at Mr Andah scored 12 per cent and stated that it “literally means that electorates in Awutu Senya West do not want to see his face on the ballot paper come 2020.”

The group, therefore, suggested that Mr Andah “steps down as MP to enable us to choose a new MP who will work hard to change the fate of Awutu Senya West electorates.”

In the group’s opinion, “the survey reaffirms the complaints of Awutu Senya West electorates who said our MP's performance is abysmal and they can't wait to change him come 2020, therefore, it will be very honourable for Hon. George Nenyi Andah to step down for someone to take over for the next one and half year so we can see some developments in our constituency."

The statement further continued that Mr Andah has not “only failed us but has disgraced Awutu Senya West because he has just told the world that we made a wrong choice and we promise that this mistake will not happen again come 2020.”

The Patriots also stated that they needed an “apology” from Mr Andah for “failing and disgracing us to the world.”
