The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Hassan Ayariga, has accused his former aide, Akane Adam, of theft.
Mr Ayariga claims Mr Adam stole money from him to buy a car.
Addressing Mr Adam directly via a phone interview on Radio XYZ’s Strict Proof programme on Tuesday, Mr Ayariga said: “…You came to my office and you worked for me; you stole my money and you bought a car”.
Ayariga’s allegation comes on the heels of a transparency campaign being led by Mr Adam to get the party to account for some Ghc1.6 million of the party’s 2012 campaign funds.
PNC Treasurer David Apasara told XYZ News on the same programme that Mr Ayariga must be investigated over the missing campaign funds.
Mr Adam, who was a studio guest on the programme, concurred with Mr Apasara.
He said there was the need for the party to make those who took charge of the money, including the Flagbearer, to account for it.
In addition to his rebuttal, Mr Ayariga said his former aide’s treachery is borne out of sour grapes.
“He, Adam Akane has to stop it. I brought him into the party and made him who he is today…I have sacked him. There’s a problem with people when you sack them from the party. They go sit down with enemies and want to bring trouble into the party…You Adam, every day you report to the Police station for fraud. Don’t come out to spoil people who have trained you”, Ayariga thundered.
Mr Adam did not deny or concede to the allegation but wondered why his former boss was making personal accusations even though the group he led, CONVENTION FORUM, never mentioned anybody’s name.
