- Kwame Awuah-Darko
The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Kingsley Kwame Awuah-Darko has stated that the constituency seat which has been occupied by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) since 2000 will definitely fall to his party on December 7th when Ghanaians go to the polls.
This he said will happen without fail since the electorates in the constituency have resolved to cast their votes massively for his candidature because he brings on board the needed dynamism, leadership qualities and hope that the constituents have been denied of unjustifiably by the NPP representative in Parliament.
Mr. Awuah-Darko said this when he launched his campaign for victory last Saturday at the Bawaleshie School park where thousands of party faithful and well-meaning Ghanaians defied the heavy rains and gathered to listen to his message of "a new direction and transformation for Ayawaso West Wuogon” amidst cheers and funfair.
He stated that amongst the many challenges affecting the development of the constituency which he is poised to tackle in earnest when given the mandate, high rate of unemployment tops the list and “as an astute entrepreneur, l would de-emphasize on the provision of menial jobs by empowering you (constituents) through skills acquisition and enterprise development to own your businesses to become financially independent.”
The parliamentary candidate also expressed reservations about the majority ownership of businesses in all the critical sectors of the economy by foreigners and vowed to lobby for the enactment of legislations that would give major support for the growth of Ghanaian-owned industries and businesses with the needed capacity of competing globally when he gets the nod to go to Parliament.
“l entreat you all to eschew the politics of insults and violence in this electioneering period and campaign on our message of change and transformation for the constituency and the ‘Better Ghana agenda’ achievements across the country to elect me as your next MP and President Mahama as the next president that Ghana needs to move forward at this critical stage of her development”, he stressed.
The NDC Campaign Coordinator for 2012 Elvis Afriyie Ankrah who also doubles as the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development described the constituency as strategic for the party and told the excited crowd that President Mahama would win the elections “one touch” because of the many achievements the NDC administration has made in the sectors of education, health, agriculture and other facets of the economy coupled with his decisive and dynamic attributes has endeared him greatly to the ordinary Ghanaian.
“But he would need a majority in Parliament to drive his vision hence “the election of Kwame Awuah-Darko as the next MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency remains non-negotiable”
The Ministers of Education and Local Government and Rural Development Mr. Lee Ocran and Ofosu Ampofo, Hon. Inusah Fuseini, Dr. Omane Boamah, Mr. Ade Coker and other government and party officials graced the launching with their speeches and presence.
