Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called for urgent action on the findings of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election Commission of Inquiry report before addressing the violence that occurred during the Ablekuma North parliamentary election rerun.

Speaking on The Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, July 12, Kpebu stressed that unresolved issues from the 2019 by-election continue to undermine justice and accountability in Ghana’s electoral processes.

“I am not equalising anything, but yesterday when I saw the chaos at Ablekuma North, my mind went to Ayawaso West Wuogon. The report is there gathering dust. Those who were supposed to get compensation, not all of them were paid. This is the impunity we have been talking about,” he said.

He insisted that unless the recommendations from the Ayawaso West Wuogon Commission are implemented, it would be difficult to properly deal with the disturbances that occurred at Ablekuma North. “Take up the Ayawaso West Wuogon Commission report and work with it; if you don’t, then this one can’t go to court,” Kpebu indicated.

In a related development, Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament, Samuel Nartey George, also told the Police to address the report that he filed following the assault on him during the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Taking to his official X page, the MP urged the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department to address his complaint, saying justice must be served in the order complaints were made.

“I am still waiting for the Police to act on my complaint from Ayawaso West Wuogon. It must be treated on a first-come, first-served basis,” he wrote.

He also warned those who justified the violence in 2019 against attempting to condemn the violence at Ablekuma North, stating: “What was sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.”
