Sunyani (B/A) April 27, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional Office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has held its first Regional Coordinating Meeting in the Sunyani Municipality with a call on party executives and members to eschew all differences and unite for the growth of the party.
Alhaji Collins Dauda, MP for Asutifi South who made the call underscored the need for the party to demonstrate unity of purpose and tackle the diverse problems besetting the party to ensure success in future elections.
In a statement signed by Mr. Justice Samuel Adjei, Deputy Regional Youth Organizer and copied to Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Alhaji Dauda expressed dissatisfaction with the behaviour of some constituency executives, perceived to belong to a camp within the party, who refused to assist in the party's campaign in last December's general election. Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, alias General Mosquito, a former Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in the NDC regime advised members of the party to throw their weight of support behind the Committee for Joint Action (CJA) that is calling on all progressive minded Ghanaians to adopt lawful positive defiance methods in getting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to do what is right for the good people of Ghana.
"Maybe time has come for us to begin to pour into the streets to demonstrate to let the NPP government to know how the majority of us feel about some of its actions and policies," he said. He stressed that the lack of "positive action" had accounted for "the imposition of certain obnoxious policies and laws on Ghanaians, including the HIPC initiative, fuel price increases, importation of right hand drive vehicles in direct contravention and subsequent twist of the law to legitimise the illegitimate. The former MP for Wenchi West, now Tain constituency, said the neo-classical economic policies of the NPP had allowed the black market forces to determine the fate of Ghanaians without any intervention from the government and culminated in massive price hikes in all facets of life, without corresponding increases in wages and salaries.
"Dissent and opposition to these have virtually been met with government passing the buck and thereby abandoning its duties and responsibilities", he added.
Mr. Adjei advised supporters and members of the party to elect executives who would be committed and hardworking to be able to help put the party's interest above all other interests.
"With these proper structures in place, I am more than confident that we will be able to mobilize both human and material resources to propel NDC to power, come 2008", he added.
