Kwesi Korang, the founder and leader of Patriot Ghana, a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, has reiterated that the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, is still the finest candidate as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's running mate.

A few months ago, the group made a compelling argument for the Vice President to appoint the Labour Minister. The group believed that the minister was not only competent but also dedicated to ensuring the NPP's triumph while cooperating with the vice president.

Kwesi Korang said the MP is someone who can help the party garner the votes required to win the 2024 presidential election.

Kwesi Korang told Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM today, Monday, June 10, 2024, that after he made the request, the Minister contacted him to voice his concerns about the situation.

According to him, the minister told him he was not in support of those pushing an agenda to have him appointed.

Kwesi Korang indicated that the Minister and some others asked the group to allow the Vice President to choose someone he prefers, feels comfortable working with, and is not pressured.

However, Kwesi Korang stated that while the Minister was not pleased with the situation, he remains the best option for collaborating with Dr. Bawumia, and the group will continue to pursue this agenda.

"Baffour Awuah was not happy we were pushing that agenda. He called to complain to us that we should not pressure the Vice President into choosing him, and if he was the one he wanted, he would do it at his own pace. But I want to maintain that Baffour Awuah is the best choice as a running mate. He is a hardworking minister and someone with deep roots in the Ashanti and Bono regions. As a Labour Minister, he has performed so well to the extent that we have witnessed minimal agitations at the Labour front.

"I am aware you do not want us to push this agenda, but the bottom line is that you are the best choice as running mate. You are the one who is more credible, viable, and a stronger person to partner with the Vice President. To the NPP members, I know you all have a choice of running mate. But the question you should be asking yourself is whether your choice is strong enough to support our candidate in winning the general elections on December 7."
