Balado Manu elected 4th time to contest Ahafo Ano seat

Accra, April 21, GNA - Mr. Stephen Kwaku Balado Manu, NPP Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South, has been re-elected unopposed to contest the parliamentary seat in the 2008 general elections.

The elated legislator, endorsed for the fourth time by the party at the constituency primaries, has pledged to retain the seat to continue with development projects he has initiated.

Mr Manu, an ardent critic of the main minority party, National Democratic Congress, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the weekend that he was one of the two MPs to have been elected unopposed on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the fourth time in the Ashanti Region.

The other is Mr Kofi Frimpong of Kwabre East Constituency. Mr Manu expressed appreciation to the party faithful for recognizing hard work both at the constituency level and Parliament. The MP, an educationist and board member of the Cocoa Processing Company, explained that part of the work at the constituency level involved his interaction with the constituents and lobbying to get development projects.

At the national level, the MP's performance is, among others, assessed by contributions on the floor of the House and his or her role at the Committee level.

Mr Manu said law making was not an ordinary business, and it was therefore necessary to retain experienced MPs who were performing well irrespective of which party is involved.
