*…As Bawku Shows Massive Support for Nana*

Thursday 24th June, 2010: -

“Nana is Bawku and Bawku is Nana” were the words of Adamu Dramani, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, when he addressed delegates of his constituency at the Bawku Community Centre and declared his support for Nana Akufo-Addo and his desire that Nana will win the general elections of 2012, and hopefully become president of Ghana.

In a short but precise speech, Hon. Adamu Dramani bemoaned that “just as you did for Nana Akufo-Addo in 2007, I humbly implore you to vote massively again on August 7, and make him one more time, flag bearer of our party, if victory in 2012 is what we all wish for.”

Nana Akufo-Addo, who was on his first day tour of the Upper East, in his quest to win the August 7 nomination of his party as flag bearer, received overwhelming cheers from the hundreds of people who had lined up on the principal streets to meet him.

Despite the imposition of curfew on the Bawku township and its environs, which indeed has slowed down commercial activities in the municipality and neighboring towns, the arrival of Nana Akufo-Addo, on Thursday, June 24, brought back life to the town and its people.

Predominant among them were Party supporters, the youth, women and children who followed him from the outskirts of the town till he finally arrived in Bawku.

While dozens of people were sighted standing on buildings, stores and on trees, all in an attempt to catch a glimpse of Nana and his entourage, some women also waved their cloths and party flags to show how much they appreciate the coming to the town of the man widely tipped to be the next president of Ghana, come 2012.

Significant amongst all, was the laying down of cloths on the road by the elderly women, for Akufo-Addo’s car to go over, whilst they danced.

Other residents also capitalised on the occasion to celebrate alongside Nana's arrival, the Black Stars’ qualification to the second round of the ongoing FIFA 2010 World Cup as many were seen clad in both NPP colours and the nations.

After driving through the thick crowd for nearly two hours, Nana and his Victory 2012 Team paid a courtesy call on the Bawku Naba, Abugri Abugrago Azoka II, where he officially announced his presence in the town and also sought permission from the King to tour his land.

“I am here to formally announce my arrival into the Upper East Region and specifically Bawku, and to seek your permission to thus, campaign on your soil. It is a great source of joy to me, that, the over lord of Bawku, is a friend of mine, and each time I come here, the reception I receive is always special", Nana Akufo-Addo noted.

On his part the Bawku Naba expressed on behalf of his elders, appreciation for Nana’s visit, and also expressed his hope that Nana finally gets the nod to lead the NPP on August 7 and in God’s name be the president of Ghana in 2012.

The victory 2012 Team then continued to Pusiga and then to Widana and finally to Garu, to round up the days tour.
