Agona Swedru, July 22, GNA - Mr Ben Mensah, a 59-year-old Former News Editor of the Daily Graphic was on Thursday, confirmed as the District Chief Executive for Agona.
He polled 65 out of the 66 votes at an emergency meeting to approve the President's nominee.
Mr Mensah was the last nominee for the post of DCE in the Central Region.
The election, which supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), was received with enthusiasm from the members of the Assembly.
Earlier, Justice Senyo Dzemafe, Agona Swedru High Court Judge swore in Alhaji Osumanu Mahama Abeka, as the new Presiding Member of the Assembly.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister, urged the DCE to cooperate with the members of the assembly to ensure peace and development in the area.
He called on him to use his rich expertise to unite the people in the Agona West and East constituencies in the district. Mr Edumadze said the government would do everything possible to improve the standard of living of the people.
Mr Mensah thanked President J A Kufuor for nominating him as DCE and pledged to work hard to enhance the lifestyle of the people. He said that his mission was to unite the people especially supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and called for mutual understanding between the Regional Minister and the two MPs from the area for the district to get its fair share of the national cake. Present at the meeting were Mr Kwame Bartels, Minister for Private Sector Development and President's Special Initiative (PSI), Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State in-charge of Tertiary Education, Nana Ato Arthur, Deputy Regional Minister, Mr Albert Essuman, Central Regional Secretary of the NPP and Alhaji Mohammed Gibrine, Regional Organiser of the party.
