Mr. David Kurug, a 36-year old Instructor of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic has announced his intention to contest as Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nabdam Constituency in the Upper East Region.

He said this when the People’s National Convention (PNC) and the Electoral Commission confirmed him as the sole Parliamentary Candidate for the area.

The aspirant said considering the fact that land in the area was no more fertile for productive agriculture, he would intensify his focus on educational needs of the people.

“It is against this background that I would work with a committee that shall handle the educational fund to take care of students’ needs. The committee shall work above party lines as Nabdams shall be my priority,” he said.

Electricity, Mr. Kurug said, shall be connected to all primary and junior high schools in each community to give the students opportunity to study at night.

“I shall also support the area with furniture and text books to schools that do not have adequate teaching and learning materials. I have realized the relevance attached to extra classes and would encourage it for the junior and senior high school students”, he added.

Mr. Kurug said he would liaise with non-governmental organizations and other development agencies to help provide portable water to the area.

He said he would lobby with Parliament to ensure that government legalizes illegal mining operations to empower those there to work independently and “I shall set up anti-bush-burning committees to arrest the situation, by planting trees, educating our people on the need to plant trees.**
