Bongo, (UE), May 5, GNA- Mr Clement Akugre Atia, a 51 year old teacher, was on Monday confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bongo District in the Upper East Region after having failed to get the votes of the two thirds of the Assembly on April 23. Out of the 47 assembly members who cast their votes, he got 38, representing 30.8 per cent of the votes cast.

Swearing him into office, the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo, urged the DCE to serve everybody in the district, irrespective of their political, ethnic and religious affiliations. He appealed to the DCE to work closely with the assembly to help address the numerous problems in the area, especially fuel smuggling and environmental issues, including littering and cutting down of trees. He entreated the assembly to strictly enforce their by laws to deal with the problems and stressed that culprits should be punished to serve as a deterrent to others.

Mr. Woyongo appealed to the assembly members to put the interest of the District above partisanship and asked them to remain focused on the development of the district. The DCE thanked the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work hard to move the development agenda of the area forward. He asked the assembly members to give him the necessary support and cooperation so that together they could focus properly on the development of the area.

Mr Atia reiterated the need for them to bury their political differences now that the election was over. He told the assembly members that his administration would have an open door policy to enable all members to contribute their views on issues. He assured the Regional Minister that he would not let the party down but work according to the tenants of the policies and programmes of the party to ensure development.
